Vict had waited over 50 years for the mate of his dreams. He’d searched the stars never expecting to find her. He was Cyborg. They were the perfect engineered machines. The perfect male specimens. They tracked and hunted. The perfect soldiers and when needed, they were the perfect lover to surpass, any female’s fantasies.

He had Worlds to search. He only needed one glance. One atom of her scent in the air. One taste of her on his tongue, and he would know her. He just needed to find her…. In the meantime, he had a job to do. Find out what was going on in Zemia.

Mina Lowenski wished for the ten thousandth time, that she was taller than 5ft 2”. If she had another 8 inches she’d be a model size. Instead, she was plump, short legged with more bust than she wanted. She was forever trying to squeeze into a sports bra to hold it all together. It was depressing. She’d tried those fancy lace things, but danger took on a whole new meaning, once she’d poured herself into them. She worried so much about swinging free, any idea of being sexy had been ruined. That put paid to her love life real quick.

What was a girl meant to do?

She looked up at the small bathroom window again, turning the data chip over in her pocket. How difficult could that be right? Mina blew out a breath. O hell. Why couldn’t life be easy?

  A word from the Author.

Hello, I'm Jessie and I thank you for buying this book! I know you did not have to. There are so many choices out there. It's a wonderful feeling knowing that someone else will enjoy one of my stories. And for me, it's about telling a story that I'd like to read myself.

I am not caught up in POV or literacy genius. It's simply not me or my style and I will never be that person, so I apologize to all those who are focused on the POV and the genius of literacy. I envy those that are.

On the days where my pain and meds stop my thinking processes, writing these books have been my lifeline. It reminds me that I still have the ability to rise to the challenge and that I refuse to go quietly into the night. God forbid!

But, I'm a person just like you, who wants to bring some passion into my life and yours, and put a good story out there that's hard to put down, that brings some escapism, sexy fun and pleasure into your reading. We all love a bit of that!

And, I hope I achieve that for you in this book. I sincerely hope you enjoy it so much that you want to look out for the next in the series. (Coming soon) And if I'm lucky, you will have had such a good time, you'll recommend it to your friends and I thank you kindly.

My very best wishes to you and yours. Jessie x

  CHAPTER ONE

Mina worked furiously at the computer terminal, if someone came in now, there was no hiding the lab full body wrap or gloves, she was wearing to prevent any of her DNA getting out. She was running out of time. They’d already interrogated her once. On that occasion, she wasn’t to blame, but it still left a nasty memory. If her faked day off didn’t work tomorrow, or the ID she’d made up for a long dead cleaner to get into the system, she was up shits creek without a paddle. The curser bleeped. Access granted, Mina inserted the new data chip. It would mess with the lab results, hiding the real ones. There was no way she was letting them have that. Whatever the hell they were working on, wasn’t good, she reminded herself.

Had they told her what she was really working on, she’d have walked months ago. Now, she had to move quickly and carefully. Play dumb. Pretend, she was a happy bunny doing shit work and none of this existed. Job done, she withdrew the data chip from the computer terminal and wiped her existence from it, spraying steriliser over everything. Then re-set the cameras to come back online in 30 minutes. No one worked these terminals any longer, they were out dated and disused. She’d only found the old hub by accident still linked up on a data search and no one, was here this late at night.

She pocketed the storage chip and headed out the room into the communal offices, removing her body wrap as she went, storing it in the bag she’d brought with her, remembering to keep her gloves on. She walked to the bathrooms. She tried for normal plastering a smile on her face, just in case. This was not her thing. She hated conflict but couldn’t allow this to go on. They’d told her she was working on a new security programme, trouble was, all her tests came back with something else. It was spying on people. People who didn’t know they were doing it. The worm she’d just set would mess with their data. The actual code was now on the chip in her pocket. She hoped h
er worm was giving the programme a run for its money.

With a bit of luck. She’d be out of here before they realised…. And home dry..

Mina looked in the toilet cubical again. She’d come in as the cleaner, dressed like an idiot. There was no way she could chance going out the same way. She’d got in as security did their rounds. The reception had been empty, but by now, he’d have seen the log, realised someone had come in and the cameras were off and be coming to check on her.

There was no way she was reaching that window without, standing on the toilet seat and cistern. Mina pulled a nasty face. Then looked at the bathroom window again. It was going to be tight. And that was if, the cistern would hold her weight. Why the hell hadn’t she tried this earlier? She berated herself. But she knew the answer, the window could be seen above the other cubicles. Someone could have seen her. Mina blew out a breath. Now or never, she told herself resigned, hoisting the bag over her shoulder and putting her foot on the toilet lid, bracing her arms on the walls to help herself up.

Mina gingerly looked around, as she levered herself up and moved along the wall, putting one foot on the cistern. With both gloved hands, now on the top of the cubicle walls, she hauled herself up onto the cistern, both feet balancing either side of the flush. Minna looked up at the window. She was going to have to reach for it. Letting go of one hand from the wall she stretched up. She couldn’t reach it, half up and half down. She let go with the other hand, balanced and reached up to grab the ledge. She wobbled but the cistern held. A cold sweat broke out across her skin. Mina took a couple of deep breaths to steady herself. Neither of which were very nice.

Plastering her arm on the ledge she undid the catch with the other hand. The window pushed free. Minna gave a huge sigh of relief, bracing both hands on the ledge, she pulled herself up, pushing the window out in front of her as she went. She yanked the bag off her shoulder and dropped it out the window. Hauling the rest of herself through after it, she was half in and half out, when she realised she was going to have to fall, head first. There was no way to turn around and it was just as high inside as out.

  Well shit …

Vict looked out the vid screen at the world below. A number of satellites surrounded the planet. It certainly had technology, data ran across his optic. Images pulled from those satellites, flew passed on the vid screen in front of him. The ships onboard systems, pulling long range, and close up images, of the land mass below onto the Bridge of his ship. This was an advanced world. He wondered how they had managed to create such a metropolis in such a short time. There was little doubt that this was a tech world. Huge pinnacle buildings rose from the ground. It was certainly spectacular, Vict thought. Visually anyway. The question was, was it dangerous to the Empire? He connected his neuro net to his communications officer.

Scan all communications and social media. Let’s see what this world is about.

  Affirmative.

Mina walked gingerly through the gardens, pulling crap out her hair and off her clothes. She’d landed head first alright and smacked her ankle in the process, hitting the floor. She stopped for a minute, catching her breath. Her ankle was killing her. She looked around, keeping a lookout for security. She expected them any minute. The noise she’d made falling to the ground, had been enough to wake the dead. She hoped to the heavens, the cameras were still out, otherwise, someone was going to get a nice view of her ass flying through the air and crumpling like a pile of wood, on the floor. There was nothing ladylike about that. Good job Mina, she could add that to her list of stupid!

Chastising herself, she poked her head around some bushes checking the coast was clear. Seeing no one, she made a dash for it. Well, a limply dash anyway. Straight to the end of the block, across two more and straight on. Her car was waiting for her at the next intersection.

Checking behind her, Minna made sure she wasn’t being followed. She ducked into an alleyway and ditched her wig, bag and cleaners jacket in a bin. Found the bag she’d stashed earlier, pulling out the long coat and putting it on, she moved out the alleyway and headed to the all-night diner. She’d placed her order some time ago. Checking her watch, making sure she was on time, Mina headed in. Picked up her order, paid and headed to her transporter.

Clicking it open, she pulled the door and jumped in. Without wasting time, she started it and drove off. Remembering to keep it cool. She’d just come out for dinner. Right? She told herself looking at the mirrors and checking the area as went.

She kept it under the speed limit. She didn’t need getting pulled over. Mina crossed several lanes and headed in several different directions, making sure she wasn’t followed. Satisfied, she headed to the bar. Parked and went inside.

Spotting her target, Mina walked over and took a stool next to him. “What’s ya poison?” The barkeeper asked walking over to her.

“Briden.” He nodded and turned his back to pour her shot. Minna glanced around seeing the place nearly empty. She moved to get off her stall and stumbled in the direction of her neighbour, passing the data chip as she did so. She stood apologising and headed to the ladies. By the time she came out, her neighbour had gone. Minna downed the shot, paid and left. She was on her way home in minutes, suddenly starving for that dinner.

There is a lot of social media on this world. There is government led information. Also, against them is a group of unhappy people pushing what they know. The world is run by a number of large companies. Their called ‘The Corporations’, police respond to such comments forcefully. There is evidence of a Police state, a lot of people that have gone missing, others are in hiding. It is not a happy place. Brak told him. Vict gave him a nod. He didn’t like the sound of that. If this world appeared to act like a police state, in his experience, that didn’t end well for a lot of people.

Get me all the information on those companies and how this world ticks.

  Affirmative.

Mina drank her third coffee knowing she’d have to leave soon if she was going to make a show of this ‘day off’. She dragged herself into the shower, her ankle still sore, quickly washing, then dressing and heading out the door. She had no idea how she’d get through an entire day at the ‘Project’. Allotment work wasn’t easy at the best of times, but it was the only excuse she could come up with for a day off that would have been acceptable at short notice. The Project provided food for the city, if they needed extra hands, it was important. The hydroponics didn’t run themselves and going into work today wasn’t an option. If they had the slightest suspicion, she’d be taken to interrogation. Mina shuddered. That wasn’t happening again. She just needed to keep to the routine she’d laid out.

  ***

Vict continued to scan the information running across his optic. This world had some serious issues. It was a police state, there was no doubt about that. The Corporations ran the city and people like they owned it and them, and could do whatever they wanted. Links to Earth Corp were all over the place. Industry had been piled in. Manufacturing had taken off. New alloys found on this planet had been useful in that process. Creating lightweight and strong metals. Malleable metals. It explained the structures they’d seen and how quickly the infrastructure had been created. 180 Years, wasn’t a lot of time to build everything from scratch. Not unless you had a lot of help. The central hub had grown quickly. Each new generation, surpassing the last. With it, came expansion.

He checked the Planet land mass scans. Beyond the mining, this was the only main settlement. It was high tech enough to have hover transporters, senor lighting, voice activation software and a complete security network. That meant they had a science and technology arm. The Corporations were the leaders here. None elected, the people, the worker bees. They’d set up their own hierarchy, with a security force making sure everyone stayed within their designated post/role. Step outside that and heads rolled.

  Vict admired the system.
It had several links to Cyborg growth. From early childhood, everyone was tested. What ever their leanings were, they were selected for that career. Placed in classes to ensure they progressed in that field. Made to ‘think out the box’, come up with new and exciting ideas. Push themselves for success, success that came with advancement for their families not just themselves. It was a large carrot. Made to ensure compliance. Those that fought it, seemed to disappear quickly. Vict moved to the social media reports. A lot of bad stuff was buried there and from it a network of dissention had arisen. An under belly, of those that rebelled.

Vict connected his neuro net. Get me everything on the rebels.

Affirmative. Vict stared at the information flowing across his net. Nothing was hidden from them, they were Cyborg.

Mina stuffed in the last of her breakfast, put the dishes in the recycle, threw her things in her bag, walked to her door, locking it behind her and walked briskly to her transporter. She didn’t want to be late today. If they’d found the leak and she expected that they had, it would have been sourced back to the old, disused terminal in the cleaning sector. The log in would high light a cleaning ID tag of someone who was long dead, with no family and an updated code key that made no sense. Once she’d sprayed the area removing any of her DNA and having used the lab body wrap, there was little chance she’d left a DNA footprint. But you never knew. Mina took a deep breath and turn her vehicle on. Checked for oncoming traffic and pulled out in the direction of her office. Everything was normal… Just another day at the office, she kept telling herself, as she moved into the lane taking her where she needed to go.
