Marlea gripped her rifle. She was head of security and she'd be damned if she was going to lose the ship on her watch. Her team had fought tooth and nail to make it this far. She was determined to face this new threat as she had the others. Silence met her demand as they slowly emerged from the smoke.

Holy Shit… These were not the ‘mess with me kind’. Marlea swallowed. She doubted they could fight these off. They were trained, an army. Way too good looking and just….. huge! Making no sound they moved towards her their hands raised.

The tall, large dark-haired man leading those behind him stood out amongst a body of super male species. Her eyes soaked up the vision on show trying to keep her composure. He was the most beautiful thing she'd ever seen. and the most deadly.

  "We're with you female...."

  A word from the Author.

Hello, I'm Jessie and I thank you for buying this book! I know you did not have to.

There are so many choices out there. It's a wonderful feeling knowing that someone else will enjoy one of my stories. And for me, it's about telling a story that I'd like to read myself.

I am not caught up in POV or literacy genius. It's simply not me or my style and I will never be that person, so I apologize to all those who are focused on the POV and the genius of literacy. I envy those that are.

On the days where my pain and meds stop my thinking processes, writing these books have been my lifeline. It reminds me that I still have the ability to rise to the challenge and that I refuse to go quietly into the night.

But, I'm just like you, someone who wants to bring some passion into my life and hopefully yours too. A good story that's hard to put down, that brings some escapism, sexy fun and pleasure into our reading. We all love a bit of that!

And, I hope I achieve that for you in this book. I sincerely hope you enjoy it so much that you want to look out for the next in the series. (Coming soon) And if I'm lucky, you will have had such a good time, you'll recommend it to your friends and I thank you kindly.

My very best wishes to you and yours. Jessie x

  Chapter One

  77 Years before the Empire.

He no longer felt the cold and shut out the incessant drip drip drip of water coming from the cracked pipe running across the ceiling. Had it been lower, he’d have jumped up and ripped it out using it as a weapon years ago but it wasn’t. They weren’t bothered that it leaked. Eventually it would make its way to the drain in the centre of the room and join all the others that had gone before. It would mix with his own urine and blood. There was plenty of that down there too. A bucket in the corner for the hard stuff, a small sink along with it. Not there for his benefit but theirs, to clean up after and he’s own washing solution. A dim lightbulb in the centre of the ceiling that never went off.

  His prison for 8 years, 4 months, 2 weeks, 6 days, 2 hours, 45, 46, 47, seconds.

Not that he wanted to remember that. His optic showing the time stamp as naturally as the sun rising each day. And he wasn’t alone. On either side of him and along the corridor, his brothers were in similar rooms. Cells. Cages. Whatever you wanted to call them they were now their homes.

Three walls of concrete held together with bars across the ceiling and along the corridor, one way in through the iron doorway and one way out. Not that he’d been going anywhere other than for missions or their amusement. Five days ago, that changed, one of them had made the mistake of lau
ghing at their predicament, telling them they should have been free. Instead, they were kept here, between jobs, used for experiments, missions and for pleasure. Sold to the highest bidder or for those that tried it. One word that changed their programming. Free. They no longer needed to take orders, be prisoners. They had a new mission now.

His pain and emotions were turned off. He’d done that himself, severing them permanently and he expected his brothers had done that too. He’d tried to endure it with them on, but it was clear very quickly that if he were to survive this, it wouldn’t be with his emotions and pain receptors intact. Luckily for him and his brothers, they were not skilled enough to turn them back on. They were not Designers, but they kept frying to find out their secrets. They wanted to know how to make them.

But, they had managed to sever his neuro net and that of his brothers. They’d been told how and where to place a knife to disconnected the pathway in his brain. His nano’s had fixed the damaged tissue but couldn’t rebuilt the wiring. That would require surgery and they’d be no surgery here and he and his brother hadn’t been able to communicate over their neuro nets for decades. They had mourned its loss for a long time, slowing coming to terms with it. Had they been human, the sudden quiet would have turned them insane.

“They are late today.” The voice of C402. He was right. The time stamp showed they were late….

“Maybe they are having a holiday.” The voice of C873. There would be no holiday for the Cyborgs. Something was off….

Their current owners were creatures of habit. If they were delayed it was for a reason. Something important had to be happening that interrupted their work with them. How that would him and his brothers was unknown. It had only happened three times before during their time here. Each time, something major had happened to mix things up and that didn’t go well for them.

Time passed slowly. The ticking of their internal clock. Each second moving them further away from the expected time frame.

The rolling of the first gate mechanism leading to the holding cages, signalled their arrival. Lifting his head, he could see across to the other cages opposite him. One to the left, right and directly across. A Cyborg in each. Catching the eyes of others. He knew they were slowly losing numbers. Each Cyborg able to communicate with a chain of three within their vision and hand movements and voices to pass on information. Too low for the humans to hear but not a problem for Cyborgs. Their hearing far superior. Once more his data told him his brothers were dying.

The tests and ordeals far beyond what a human could survive. And that was before the missions, beatings, the gang rapes and experiments. His data flowed over his optic. According to his data, it was surprising that any of them were still alive.

He agreed. They were Cyborgs. Its what they did. They adapted and survived. Would he survive this?..... The question floated across his optic along with the data. He didn’t need to read the data to answer that. It was practically written on the walls…. Unless this was a chance….

He checked his sensors. The rolling gate on the upper level had not closed behind them. He looked up at his brothers. They had each realised it too. What were they coming for this time?.... Sex, a beating, brutality, endurance, or testing?.... Silently they stood as one and he gave a nod as he moved towards his barred gate. This had never happened before. They never forgot to close the upper gate behind them…. He strained to hear the voices coming along the upper corridor. Then the doorway opened and they descended down to the next level and gate.

  Were they finally becoming complacent?....

Voices reached him. They had to have just come through the door that lead down to the cells. Only three of them…. There were nearly always six or more. Something else that was different…..

“….is bullshit. They know we never come down here with less than six of us. Reducing our numbers is stupid and these fucking tests could have waited. If there’s an uprising, then they should put it down hard and stop fucking about…”

“I didn’t hear there was an uprising. Where’s that?”

“Some bloody colony got uppity in the West. Can’t remember the name. But taking half my crew is not cool.” The first soldier answered.

“Yeah but an uprising, the people could take over.” He sounded nervous…

The voices were getting nearer. They stopped at the doorway and opened it onto their level. They’d picked up the trolley. Guess it was sample time again….

“We shouldn’t be down here without the rest.” The third guard sounded worried. He should be…..

“Don’t you think I know that.” The first one told him. “Orders are fucking orders. Let’s just get this done ok. You open the door, you stand guard. Got it?”

“Got it.” They both told him.

They were close to the first cage. He signalled the Cyborgs to his left. Do nothing. Wait… He passed it on. Each Cyborg would know this was a good chance for them. The first in all those years.

“Open 1.” The first guard called. The grill doorway opened. The trolley moved in followed by the soldier. “Do anything and your dead,” the guard told his brother.

There was some scraping, then wiping. They were talking blood…. Then the trolley and feet backed out. “Close 1.”

  They moved up the line.

He gave the signal to be ready.

They came to his doorway. He moved back a pace and held up his arms. “Open 7.” The door started to move, and he gave the signal for diversion. The Cyborg opposite him crashed into the iron grill on his cage, pulling on the grill. All three soldiers turned to look, faster than they could track, he slammed the trolley into the first and second, grabbing the riffle of the third and gate button from the hand of the other one, smacking all three quickly with the end of the rifle butt. They went down and stayed there.

He’d been slower than he’d have liked. Poor food did that to a Cyborg. He crouched waiting for a full-on attack if it was coming. Nothing. No alarm no noise. He guessed the soldiers had been speaking the truth. The other men were gone.

Wasting no time, he engaged the button on full release and all the cage doors opened. His men rallying to his side. Some in better shape than others. Limbs damaged. Some still bloody from the last round of whatever they’d endured.

“Put them in a cage. Tie um up and gag them.” He told them for their ears only. Weapons were pulled from them and handed out before they were dragged away.

Blood was running down the arms of the three Cyborgs who’d been caged on his side. Doors 1,3,5 who’d had blood taken. No finesse here… nothing new. He handed them gause until their nano’s could kick in to stop the bleeding. Poor food meant poor healing too and they were all running on empty. Was that what they kept testing for? To see how low they could go and fuction?.... He had no idea. They never told them anything but it wasn’t logical. Why would you weaken your army?... His logic for once had no answer.

He listened as they waited. No noise at all was coming from the rooms above them. The gates were open. The base should be running on activity. Daily routines, work being carried out. Training sessions but there was nothing. He gave the signal for his men to move out once the grill was secured on the soldiers. Two took point with the guns. They climbed hoping no one was on the cameras in the security offices while checking for traps. The soldiers always stopped at intervals, so they checked and made it to the stop of the staircase without incident. Still no voices….. Slowly they inched forward, no sign of their owners. No they were they’re captors not owners, he reflected.

They moved up the staircase and into the cell control room. They had left the main metal door open. That wasn’t protocol but then he guessed, the leader had been pissed off. That was careless….

No matter what, he wasn’t leaving his men in this place. He would protect them. Do what it took to give them their freedom.

“Infiltrate the system, then shut it all down and kill it. We’re taking all that knowledge with us, leaving nothing behind. Look for weapon
s, exits and transport.”

His men spread out. There was no telling how long they’d have before they were back. This had to be quick. They were not going back in that hole…. More memories crossed his optic and he pushed them away. He didn’t need to see that.

There was a blast and they all went on alert. Several Cyborgs came back with weapons handing them out. Knifes, grenades and pulse riffles. They each cocked and loaded. It was a real fight now…. He looked at what was left of his men. Some badly damaged. Had he done this to them?....could he have done more to protect them?....

“I have the information,” C732 told him pulling him away from this thoughts. “Should be trucks outside. They have orders to burn that village to the ground. No survivors.”

He grasped his riffle waiting for it to full charge. “Destroy everything. Blow this place, then we go say hello and help out that village.” A chorus of ‘Affirmative’ followed. He moved forward taking point. His men following in behind. “Kill anyone we find on the way out. They denied us our freedom. Now we are taking it. No prisoners. We are done here.”
