Pilar Sanchez was the last in a long line of her Spanish heritage. Both her parents were gone now. She was alone. On the outpost of her birth. Now home to thousands of humans. Set up by Old Earth to provide support to the expansion of the human race throughout the universe, it had been a huge risk and eventually grown into a vibrant hub of various enterprises. Her family had been paid well to set up the trading post and they weren't the only ones.
Now a bustling port. It had made some very rich and plenty of others very greedy. Dependent on trade that wasn't guaranteed, they'd made some questionable contracts over the years to keep it going. Pilar had never liked it. Some of her father's decisions had bothered her and as those contracts came up for renewal, she’d closed them down.
It didn't make her popular and she couldn't care less. But she wasn't stupid either. She'd asked the Cyborg Empire for help, bringing in her own security. People she could trust. No one liked change. And when it came to credits...... changes could be deadly in her part of the universe.
Going off-world to meet her new alliance had been risky. It left her open to a takeover. But one look at all that taut, ripped muscle..... and she knew it for what it was ... Madre de Dios!
Just what she needed!
O baby, come to momma......

A word from the Author.
Hello, I'm Jessie and I thank you for buying this book! I know you did not have to.
There are so many choices out there. It's a wonderful feeling knowing that someone else will enjoy one of my stories. And for me, it's about telling a story that I'd like to read myself.
I am not caught up in POV or literacy genius. It's simply not me or my style and I will never be that person, so I apologize to all those who are focused on the POV and the genius of literacy. I envy those that are.
On the days where my pain and meds stop my thinking processes, writing these books have been my lifeline. It reminds me that I still have the ability to rise to the challenge and that I refuse to go quietly into the night.
But, I'm just like you, someone who wants to bring some passion into my life and hopefully yours too. A good story that's hard to put down, that brings some escapism, sexy fun and pleasure into our reading. We all love a bit of that!
And, I hope I achieve that for you in this book. I sincerely hope you enjoy it so much that you want to look out for the next in the series. (Coming soon) And if I'm lucky, you will have had such a good time, you'll recommend it to your friends and I thank you kindly.
My very best wishes to you and yours. Jessie x

Chapter One
The nightmare had come again. She could feel the pull of it on her now. Dragging her down. Holding at the edges of her mind. Forever present now it seemed. A warning? The feeling of helplessness crept in once more. Freezing her mind, loosing her focus. She was alone. No one to help her. No one to save her. It’s just a dream, she told herself again. She struggled to believe it. Trouble was, it didn’t feel like it was just a dream. It felt all too real. Similarities to her own memories that went further than actual events. Was it the same? An expansive memory? Was she los
ing it?
Yep. She must be. Doing this was crazy. She told herself for the hundredth time. She was asking for trouble and kept pushing forward. Who did that sanely? Pilar sighed. When had life got so complicated….?
She knew the answer to that. The minute she was born. The minute her father died. She’d chosen this course of action, fully aware of what she was doing. Why the dreams then? Her mind turned to what had been real. The first time, she’d been alone walking home. Not a care in the world. Then out of the darkness, they came. And the fear hit her. Nothing she’d ever experienced before. Pilar shuddered, lost in the memory. She hadn’t even screamed. There were men coming out of the brickwork and shadows, the blood. Their screams…..
A strong hand gripped her shoulder. It broke the spell of the memories. She turned and looked at Four. He’d reached out to comfort her sensing how her emotions had turned. A child, thrown into a nightmare she’d never thought possible, the adult reliving it. He’d seen this in her before. The memories of each attack on her never far away. Always on her guard. Always vigilant. The dreams affecting her physically. Four knew and understood it. After all, he knew her so well.
A human habit of comfort he’d picked up over the years. Not a natural reaction for him and she appreciated the contact and comfort. She couldn’t afford to lose focus now. Giving him a slight nod and his hand fell away. It had done it job. Listening once more, she wasn’t sure that was better than the dreams.
They didn’t like it. What a fucking surprise… Not that she cared one way or the other. She knew what was right and what wasn’t. She’d been digging her father’s company out of the mire for the past two years and she wasn’t finished yet. They held her back time and time again.
Determined to get this done, she knew she was making enemies. Well, suck it up buttercup, a new era is coming! She wanted it legit. All of it. Not just the over the counter stuff either. She’d had to get dirty to clean it up and that was ok with her. She was her father’s daughter after all. She’d be fair and that was it. Pilar held in, the need to scream at them and kept a calm exterior. More often than not, it felt like she was losing the battle more than winning it. One step forward two back. It was driving her nuts. Things were going to change even if she had to drag it there herself…
She was sick of hearing; ‘in her father’s day, things had been different. Don’t rock the boat. Business was good’. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, her father’s days were over, and they needed to get onboard or jump ship! She was tired of pacifying these idiots.
Not that her father had been a bad father to her. On the contrary, he’d been loving and caring, and she’d wanted for nothing as she’d grown up around the Trading Post. It had blossomed into a bustling Port before she was born, where her father held a lot of sway as one of those that had clawed his way up into a position of power. He had a reputation for being fair no matter where you came from, and did a lot of business, lining a lot of pockets.
That didn’t mean to say her father was a teddy bear. In fact, she’d seen him in action more times than she cared to remember. People were ruthless on her world and he was no exception. Someone always wanted what he had. Luckily for him he’d been a fast draw. Men died and her father gained the reputation of an iron fist. Cross him and you chanced your life. Take from him and you were likely a dead man. If you wanted to trade with him, you did what he told you or you tried your luck elsewhere. Simple. People knew what to expect with her father. His way or the highway. No argument, no negotiations.
With her, ……not so much. Even after all these years and no one had been more surprised than her when he’d brought her into the business in her teens and showed her the ropes. To say it had been an eye opener would be putting it mildly. What she thought was a simple trading company was far more than that. Not only did it have its legit side, it also had a number of illegitimate trades too. Off books, under the counter, you name it, if it interested her father, he took it. Credits were god on this world.
Her mother passing unexpectedly prior to this event appeared to be the catalyst. It had been a difficult time for both of them. Her a teenager needing her mother. Her father a husband needing his wife. She’d heard the rumours at the time. Her father needing his family with him in his time of grief was why she was there. No one thought she was going to make it on her own merits. But it had brought them closer together and she had.
She didn’t think her father ever fully recovered. Childhood sweethearts. It turned him into what he’d become in those later years. His grief hung over him like a shroud and he got harder, more ruthless and rarely smiled even at home. Life had taken something so precious from him, that it seemed to break him somehow. Her father had always seemed infallible before that. Like nothing could touch him, until it did, and he was never the same again.
She went from the little girl at home, to ‘my heir’ in seconds. Did he know what was coming? Pilar wasn’t sure. It hadn’t gone down well with many he’d worked with. She wasn’t what they’d hoped. She wasn’t a boy and without a male heir, they’d expected good old dad, to pass it all on to one of them some day. Each one jostling for power. Looking for any advantage. Using her. The conversation between them on that, had been…. Difficult.
Nope, the old man wasn’t having that. Scratch that! Sucking up to the wrong man was a bad move. Dad was about family. He was Spanish to his core. Daughter or not, she was it.
From that moment forward she’d spent her teens and early 20s dealing with the real books and contracts. Sitting in on meetings with his business partners looking dismissively at her. But that was a dangerous game. If her Dad saw them doing it……
And as time went on, she’d add her 10c when he asked her opinion. Progressing to lead those meetings with her father at her side. It didn’t go unnoticed how the wind was blowing. It got her her share of attention too. They were the brave or stupid ones. It was hard to tell, and she learnt the hard way. Dad was right. They weren’t all they were cracked up to be. They wanted more than just her. A means to an end. The goal far bigger. Changing sides with the current. Nowhere to hide. No protection. Dropping her like a tonne of bricks if they had to bail. Not all sweet words were sweet…. A lot, would end up painful and gradually she stopped listening and started to watch. That’s when she learnt her biggest lesson of all. Don’t trust anyone other than family.
Two years on and to close out something she didn’t like, she still had to come up with the numbers and the basis on which to make that work. She had to argue her case. Show the evidence. Slap them over the head with it. They were insolent and rude. Gave her shit and kept digging away at her. Waiting for their chance. Paranoid much? Pilar smiled. Sadly not. She knew the game. She hadn’t earnt her father’s reputation. They still saw the little girl she’d been.
Someday, she’d have to dissuade them of that notion. Something her father hadn’t had to deal with. A ruthless man to his core. His rule was simple. If it made enough of a profit, it stayed. If other things outweighed the profit, or it wasn’t worth it, he let it go. It wasn’t worth his time.
Within a few years, those that weren’t blind, saw how it was gonna go down. Those that tried to adapt generally made it work. The others, went by the wayside and moved to their competitors. Her father didn’t care. In this he was resolute, and she was only too glad to see the back of them.
For the next 10 years she worked her ass off chipping away at the problem. She was sure her father knew what she was doing but as long as she came up with the right reasons and or, a better cash flow, he supported her and let it go.
Now, looking back she realised that it was likely he knew he wasn’t well. And in his own way, knew her way of working wasn’t his and had allowed her that. She guessed, he wanted his company to survive with her at the helm and in his own way, he’d done what he could to prepare her.
She recalled that those years had been a steep learning curve. They’d been more than one try at a takeover during her lifetime and when things were clear that
they were not going back to how they’d once been, it only got worse. Both their lives had been threatened several times over. Her father had pushed back hard each time, not only using mercenaries in their security, but what turned out to be Cyborgs too.
Her shock at discovering them had been complete. She just thought they were really good guards. Big, great looking and quietly determined to do their job. Pilar smiled. When her father had explained the difference, she’d gone mad. They were people she’d told him.
He’d contracted for their labour from Earth Corp decades before when assigned to the Trading Post, buying them like coda. She hadn’t really understood it at the time. Too young, headstrong. Everything so black and white. She’d never heard of a ‘Cyborg’, but her father knew it all. He’d explained what one was. Her shock and disgust had got the better of her. She’d dug in. Fighting tooth and nail with him every step on every deal and for once, she’d defied him in public.
Pilar smiled at the memory. His Spanish Catholic daughter, arguing against in him public at 13. His face had been a mixture of pride and pure annoyance. He’d quietly reminded her that it was his business and while he ran it, he could do what the hell he wanted.
