Blaz looked at the female chained to the Bridge console. He was unable to take his eyes off her. Even in her dirty, ragged clothing and physically abused, she called to him. She had clearly been beaten, starved and worse. The men on this ship had used her and yet her first thought after killing the so called ‘Captain’ of this ship? Find her men. His female had honour. His female? Did he have the right to call a female his? Did he want one? Logic and emotion challenged each other, instinctively his processors told him, no.

His body however, appeared to have other ideas. He registered his control was slipping, close to spilling over, males had deliberately harmed this female. There was no logic to that and he needed to punish them. Make them pay. As his cock hardened gazing at the female and he knew two things. She was not ready for a male like him and might never be and …. she was his mate and needed his protection. No one would harm her again and live…

Kate shook as the chains came off her wrists and the collar from around her neck. Rubbing the soreness from her wrists, she realised she was nearly naked and still surrounded by men. Cyborgs. She’d killed that miscreate only to find herself with another group of men. She was an idiot, she’d asked to leave, and they’d promised to protect her and take her off this ship. Kate shuddered, to what end? A blanket appeared held out to her. She wanted to take it but knew from experience, there would be a price.

“What’s it going to cost me.” She asked without looking up, surprised, her voice sounded so clear. She didn’t need to see her next abuser and yet, she felt no malice from him and she no longer feared.

There was silence and for a moment, she wondered if he’d heard her. She really didn’t have the energy to care.

Kate knew Cyborgs had very, very good hearing. He couldn’t have missed the comment.

And when he did speak ………. she’d wished he had.

  “Nothing. Your mine.”

  A word from the Author.

Hello, I'm Jessie and I thank you for buying this book! I know you did not have to.

There are so many choices out there. It's a wonderful feeling knowing that someone else will enjoy one of my stories. And for me, it's about telling a story that I'd like to read myself.

I am not caught up in POV or literacy genius. It's simply not me or my style and I will never be that person, so I apologize to all those who are focused on the POV and the genius of literacy. I envy those that are.

On the days where my pain and meds stop my thinking processes, writing these books have been my lifeline. It reminds me that I still have the ability to rise to the challenge and that I refuse to go quietly into the night.

But, I'm a person just like you, who wants to bring some passion into my life and yours, and put a good story out there that's hard to put down, that brings some escapism, sexy fun and pleasure into your reading. We all love a bit of that!

And, I hope I achieve that for you in this book. I sincerely hope you enjoy it so much that you want to look out for the next in the series. (Coming soon) And if I'm lucky, you will have had such a good time, you'll recommend it to your friends and I thank you kindly.

My very best wishes to you and yours. Jessie x

  Previously…… Aboard the vessel Scorpan.

Blaz and his men moved towards Dark and Burn’s team. They’d cleared a path through the ship. Dead lined the walls. They stood several metres from the Bridge doorway. Pain can you override those doors? he asked over his neuro net that linked him to the majority of his Cyborgs. The neuro net of some of them, no longer worked. Destroyed by the war or the people who had worked with them.

Yes. Be ready. There are 23 life signs on the Bridge.

Dark walked towards it. “We have 23 Pirates on that Bridge ladies. Pain give us lights out. They will come at us head on. Burn, move back to your secondary breaching position. We move in in 10.” The men around him nodded and started moving.

Dark took up his position and waited. His neuro net counted down. At 8.47 Blaz clicked in
. In position secondary doors.

Weapons check. He didn’t need to tell his men, it was instinctive of years of combat.

Lights out in 5,4,3,2,1. The lights went out. The next second the Bridge doors opened and Dark charged. His men followed him in.

The secondary Bridge doors opened at the same time and Blaz rushed in with his men. The pirates under-manned and lacking in skill, didn’t stand a chance, the fire fight was quick and deadly. “It’s over.” Dark called out. Several men dropped weapons and lifted their arms. Others carried injuries, some would die soon Blaz realised. The Captain slowly rose from his seat facing Dark.

“This is an act of war.” The pirate Captain told him.

Dark laughed. “War?” He questioned. “We are the Cyborg Empire and war was declared some time ago, when your kind hit the Space Station in our sector of Space.” Dark got serious. “You will be judged for your crimes. Your logs will tell us everything, as will your audio and vid feeds. There will be nothing we do not know about your crimes and your men will willingly, tell us everything. Secure him with the others. The ship is ours.”

Pain status on the cruiser? He asked.

Our men held off the boarding party. Causalities to the human security. They fought bravely. We have four injured Cyborgs. Nothing serious.

Secure this ship. Inform Captain Direau of the passenger Cruiser that we are victorious and bringing it in to their aid. Follow us in.

  Acknowledged.

A rattle of chains brought Darks focus back to the Bridge. He frowned. The Captain had kept a pet? Barbaric! Several Cyborgs stood around the noise. Blaz looked around them and registered what the noise was, anger raged through him, turning he raised his weapon growling viciously and struck the pirate Captain across the face hard and sent him sprawling.

“That’s my property.” The Captain called out from the floor as several Cyborgs started dragging him away. Blaz growled again and looked to Dark.

Dark moved around the consoles as the Captain, continued to protest his rights. The chains moved again.

Step back. He told his men. All but Blaz moved. He stood to one side. Dark approached and looked down. A female was chained to the console by her wrists and around her neck. It was clear she’d been beaten and worse. Her clothes were torn. Her face bruised. There was blood around the collar at her neck and the chains on her wrists.

“He won’t hurt you again. You’re safe now. We do not make prisoners of women.” Dark told her.

The woman looked between him and Blaz. Then she moved. Faster than Dark would have thought possible in her condition. Before he registered she’d grabbed his weapon fired and shot the pirate Captain dead. Her aim spot on.

“Now I’m safe.” She told him. “That fucker won’t hurt anyone again.” She dropped the gun and slumped over the console.

Blaz stared at the woman as she seemed to realise what she’d done and slumped into a chair.

“Get those chains off.” Dark barked. “Who are you and what are you doing here?”

Blaz registered the female was in shock, dazed. “I ……. was Captain of the Scorpan. We were tasked with finding the pirates by Earth Corp and mapping their routes for a mission to take them out.” She gave a sad shudder. “Didn’t go as planned. I tracked them for months. We were at a Space Station Port refuelling when they attacked it. Hadn’t seen that coming.” She laughed. “We fought and lost. Our ship was not a combat vessel and my crew was minimal. Any tactical advantage we had in space was lost in the Docks. They took my crew prisoner or killed them. Kept me live when they realised I’d been able to track them. Used me to do the same to other ships.” She lifted her arms as a warrior came forward to remove her chains. “I’d like to leave now.”

“Get her over to the cruiser. Secure accommodations and full medical check.” Blaz moved forward. She’s a possible mate.

She has been through much. That might not be possible. Dark warned him.

I understand, I’d like to go with her.

  Agreed.

The chains came off. “Captain?” The female asked, Dark turned towards her. “My crew. Some might be still alive in the cells on this ship.” It was clear to Blaz, she was close to breaking. “I’d like to know,” She told them. Dark nodded. The female had much courage, thought Blaz. Dark turned to a crew member. “Find out.”

“What we find you will know.” Dark indicated with his chin towards Blaz. The female followed his gaze.

“This is Blaz. You are not a prisoner. He will be your personal security from this point forward.” Dark turned towards him and vocalised his orders for the females benefit. “Get her food and water and anything else she needs then transfer to the Cruiser ASAP.” Blaz gave a nod.

Dark watched through the view screen as they approached the Cruiser. The damage was obvious. Gun fire all over it. The breach the pirates had made was under repair. Two ships stood off to one side. Dark recognised theirs, the second the other pirate ship. They docked, and Dark headed down the ramp into the docking area.

Several of his men waited with him. The doors opened and Captain Direau stood with his own security. Dark walked forward and clasped arms with the Captain. “Job well done Captain.” Dark told him.

Direau nodded sadly. “Yes, at a cost. I’m getting to old for this shit.” Dark looked at Direau’s men. “You all fought well. Be proud. You saved a lot of lives this day.” Then turned to his own men who had fought on the Cruiser with the humans. All had neuro net.

No left overs? That’s just greedy. Well done boys. They grinned back at him. Dark looked at each in turn. And then at the command leader. Report.

Several causalities sir. All receiving treatment. Ship secure. We have some prisoners.

  Liaise with Pain and Burn.

Affirmative. The whole conversation taking milli seconds.

“Captain we have a female that was held prisoner by the pirates, she needs accommodation and treatment.”

Blaz looked on as the Captain showed the shocked the rest of them were feeling. “Straight away.” The Captain turned to his man. “Set it up and forward the information.”

“Excellent.” Dark told him, “now I’d like a tour of the damage and fighting areas, then,” Dark grinned, “we’re going to talk to our prisoners.” ……..

  CHAPTER ONE

Their all dead. Those fuckers had killed them all. Not one of her crew had survived. Kate slumped back in her chair, wanting to cry and scream and not for the first time, looked around her room in despair. It gave her no answers. Why the hell was she still alive? She asked herself. She should be dead with her crew. Had she begged and bartered their lives for hers? She couldn’t remember and it haunted her. Could she have saved them? She was responsible for this, if she hadn’t taken that contract …….. Kate screamed out in anger and frustration, trashing the room.

Eventually she ran out of steam, exhausted she dropped onto the bed. The room a mess, she couldn’t find the energy to care. The bed unmade and in need of serious attention. Did it bother her? Fuck no. Was this it then? All those years of hard work, the struggle to survive, fight for what she wanted, to make a life for herself, be good at what she did, had come to this? One messed up room, with one messed up person.

One bad decision and she got her crew killed. It had looked like such a good deal. Go about your business and monitor any pirate activity on your way. Use those skills of yours to track them. Pass us what you know, and we’ll happily pay you. Easy job, you’re there anyway so why not make some extra credits? Kate laughed out loud uncontrollably. Had she ever been so stupid?

Stupid, stupid, stupid, she bashed her fist on her leg. She knew better than that. Everything came at a price. Nothing was easy. She knew that and still took the fucking deal! What had she been thinking? She’d got over confident. Well, they’d paid the price all right and it was all on her. Her crew decimated and the rapes …. Kate started to shake….. cant deal with this now. T
oo much. Cant. Not ready for that.

Kate reached out with hands shaking and grabbed the injector, holding it against her neck she pressed down, instant numbness seeped into her body, her eyes losing focus.

Yesss, Soooo good. Now, if she could only stay like this …..

  ***

Blaz stood outside the door. He’d been standing guard on and off for a while now. He’d heard her. Could sense her pain. It peeked, she’d lashed out, then subdued. It was quiet now, he sighed knowing she must have used the injector again. He rested his hands on the door frame, willing her to get better, wanting to kill those pirates over and over, until her pain was gone. He’d asked Dark to be part of the interrogations but been refused. His hands fisted. It was his right to inflict pain on them. He couldn’t get passed the feeling he’d let her down.

It had been a week and she’d made no progress. He listened through the door to her breathing. It was calmer now. His Cyborg hearing giving him the ability to hear everything beyond the doorway. She wasn’t getting any better, his logic told him. He dropped his hands and paced. Their journey delayed by 12 days due to repairs needed on the Cruiser, was testing his patience. They would now be at the Space Station in around 4 weeks, not 2. She barely ate and drank ……… not enough water either. He’s skin felt tight. He flexed his fingers. She needed more, the med bed had done what it could to fix her, but it showed how low her system was, it showed the damage done to her… it had been bad. It was a wonder to him that she was still functioning at all, when they’d boarded that ship.
