This novel is written mainly in British English, with American words and language and slang from both.

Dare, named for his daring and audacity. Strong and fearless. A battle-hardened free Cyborg. But freedom had come at a cost. It had been brutal, and many had died. Designers not willing to give up their Cyborg toys, the military, not willing to lose their infallible army. They had fought and died trying to stop them, but Dare had led his men to victory time and time again. They had earned their freedom.

Cyborgs, a deadly secret created to wage war and defeat the enemies of Earth Corp. They did their job well. Too well. It got them noticed and the public started to ask too many questions. Earth Corp investors got shaky, they didn’t like the scrutiny or the bad publicity and panicked. No one wanted to be associated with playing god or stealing lives. The public in uproar over the dilemmas of creating lab born humans for Cybernetic implants, had been highly publicised. Earth Corp enemies had circled like sharks sensing blood in the water. Share prices plummeted, the stock became toxic and they became desperate to hold back the tide. So they paid them off and freed them, or so they said. Only Earth Corp wasn't so keen to lose a multi-billion credit project. So they lied.

Until Dare found the truth of it. There was nothing he couldn't find out using the tools they'd given him. Seduction. It was what he’d been trained for. An infiltrator who’s sole role was finding out information any way he could. His optics and sensors gave him all the data he needed, to know exactly what the female was thinking, needing, wanting. He knew just the right touch, just the right pressure, just the right whisper. The right stroke of her breast, lick or suck of her flesh. When to push, when to pull. He could read every emotion, every flush of their bodies, every signal of desire. And he pressed home every advantage. It was all so easy. He didn't need to think, he didn't need to do anything more than what he'd been programmed to do.

And he was the best at what he did.

Nicky Brenson had a problem. An accident as a child, had killed off most of her nerve endings. She was an Air Flow Engineer and relationships didn’t work for her. So she threw herself into her job. Not that anyone paid any real attention to that. It only kept them alive on the Space Station in the vacuum of Space. Nothing important, right?

Her experimentation had given her a unique system. It gave the Station something special. The feel of being grounded, not just recirculated, stagnant air but something tangible, something real. It made living on a Space Station easier, healthier. People didn’t get air sickness on her air. In a world where oxygen was at a premium and plenty didn’t clean it out or refresh it often enough, she’d done the unthinkable. Made it seem real.

Until the pirates came calling at the Space Station. Killing, robbing, raping. She’d hidden for days but eventually they found her, and she’d had to save herself. That hadn’t been easy and the only time she'd been grateful not to feel.

Then the Cyborgs came and found her. Only her saviour made her nervous for other reasons. Always around. Always looking, always checking, asking too many questions. Like he was trying to figure something out. Too big, too tall, pure war machine and all intense male.

She wasn’t about to tangle with that, no matter how good looking he was...

  A word from the Author.

Hello, I'm Jessie and I thank you for buying this book! I know you did not have to.

There are so many choices out there. It's a wonderful feeling knowing that someone else will enjoy one of my stories. And for me, it's about telling a story that I'd like to read myself.

I am not caught up in POV or literacy genius. It's simply not me or my style and I will never be that person, so I apologize to all those who are focused on the POV and the genius of literacy. I envy those that are.

On the days where my pain and meds stop my thinking processes, writing these books have been my lifeline. It reminds me that I still have the ability to rise to the challenge and that I refuse to go quietly into the night.

But, I'm a person just like you, who wants to bring some passion into my life and now, hopefully yours. Put a good story out there that's hard to put down, that brings some escapism, sexy fun and pleasure into our reading. We all love a bit of that!

And, I hope I achieve that for you in this book. I sincerely hope you enjoy it so much that you want to look out for the next in the series. (Coming soon) And if I'm lucky, you will have had such a good time, you'll recommend it to your friends and I thank you kindly.

My very best wishes to you and yours. Jessie x

  Chapter One

  Previously ….

Bloody hell, the pirates were everywhere. She gripped her wrench harder and stilled as she heard the screaming and men laughing. Fuckers! her mind screamed hating them even more as they bragged to each other about what they would do to the woman they were dragging away. Nicky, Nic to her friends shuddered. Torn between going to the woman’s aid and knowing it would be useless. Not for the first time, did she wish she had weapons. A wrench wasn’t going to cut it with that lot, she realised. But she knew where to find some and wished to whatever gods were listening, that she’d gone and got them first .

From the corner of the hidden walkway she could see out to the communal areas on this level of the Space Station that was her home. The shops, the walkway, the open retail square. Level 6 was known for its mix of living and shopping space. It all looked like it had been through hell. It had. God knows, so had the people caught up in this raid.

Reluctantly, she pulled back from the walkway, heading away from the concourse back the way she’d come. Should have gone to weapons store earlier, she murmured pissed with herself, but she’d been worried the pirates would have been there first and were guarding it. Exposing herself wasn’t an option she wanted to take. Only when she’d done a cursory checked of the floor on her way here, it had been a surprise to find it empty. Hadn’t it been on the Stations schematic? she wondered as she kept low and moved quicker. It made no sense to her. If you were taking over a Space Station wouldn’t you secure the weapons store? So ok it wasn’t the main one, but it still held back up weapons for this very reason! Where the hell was security?

Question after question had plagued her since the pirates had swooped in from the docking bays and taken over the Station. All too quickly in her opinion. She’d not seen one of the Stations security people. It pissed her off. Where the hell were the defences! She didn’t have the answers. But she was determined to find some.

Her Air Drive and accommodation were on level three, above the basement two levels of the Space Station. They held the Station’s engines that powered everything and the essential mechanics of living in space. Fuel, water, sanitation, batteries, solar panels, it was all down there. Her level was less essential storage and the Air Gen systems. Her perfect Air Drive kept the people alive on the Station. She’d insisted they knock out several storage areas and put her rooms down there. She needed to be near her equipment if it failed. They’d given her grief at the time but now, she was relieved she’d insisted. No one expected to find accommodations in a storage level. It had kept her safe from the pirates.

Who knew, 20 years later that decision would help save her life. After a quick run through that level, the pirates had left dragging boxes of stuff with them, not seeing beyond what they’d expected. She’d been able to hide, and her rooms hadn’t been found. Thankfully most of the systems were automatic on the Station so they’d not expected to find anyone actually living on that level. Now, she’d put herself in danger. What the hell had she been thinking? Exposing herself had been a stupid move, she told herself angrily. No one had come looking for her so far, why the hell did she think it was a good idea to go check things out! Nicky cursed. She’d hoped to find survivors and make a stand but that wasn’t going to happen here. They needed an army and she couldn’t risk the lifts, if they found her, she’d be trapped and it would all be over.

Backing up some more, she turned keeping low and walked slowly away, keeping to the shadows, trying not to draw attention to herself. Getting caught now would be…. dumb.

She kept going over it in her head. The pirates had arrived way too quickly and taken over the Space Station almost with no bloodshed. Nicky was sure they must have had some help. There was no way, they could have got access so easily. It didn’t make sense. Sure, the Station had got lax over the last couple of years. She’d seen it, so had plenty of the others but no one, had any hard evidence of wrong doing and plenty didn’t want to rock the boat. That could get you killed.

Look where that got them now, she whispered looking around. The stairwell was up ahead. She just needed to get passed that and head down the maintenance staircase. She heard screaming again from the concourse. Nicky bit her lip and tightened her fists. Fuck. She wanted to go back and help whoever it was but knew there were just too many of them. She’d seen at least 15 pirates emptying shops and pulling people away, killing the men. Nicky rubbed at her temple, these people needed help, she needed to move.

She edged to the corner of the walkway and peaked around it. It looked clear enough, she’d had a better view from the other side, it linked up to three other walkways and she couldn’t see all the way to the end of each from this position. Damn it. She had to get back into that maintenance stairwell. Hesitating for a moment longer, she knew there was nothing for it but to take a chance. She couldn’t stay there. Taking one more quick glance, she took a deep breath and stood slowly. Seeing no one she ran as quietly as she could for the maintenance doorway. She had her hand on it when she heard the voice. “I’m sure I saw movement up ahead…” Shit! Pulling hard, she yanked it open and ran through the doorway hurtling down the stairs at breakneck speed, the doors closing behind her but not before she heard something to freeze her blood. “Up there ….”

Flying down the staircase she hardly dared to breathe. She was several stair sections below where she’d started, before she heard the door she’d come through opening again. Damn it…. now she’d have to go quietly. They’d be no more rushing unless they came directly after her. Nicky hugged the shadows that were cast on that landing. Luckily for her, the maintenance staircase not as well-lit as the main ones. “See anything?” She heard above her. Nicky swallowed. Hardly anyone used this staircase anymore and repairs had been patchy. She’d hoped they’d see its decay and go back. Most of the lights were out. That pissed her off most days like everything else that wasn’t getting done. Today, she was glad of it.

Listening for foot steps and voices she edged along the darkness. There was a door on this level same as on all the others. Where her rooms and equipment were, were down two more levels but the weapons store was on the next level. Nic prayed she could still get to it. Sudden pounding down the staircase towards her told her they were coming fast. Shit. She ran out from her corner and hugged the wall as she started descending again at a manic pace.

They whooped at hearing her run. They knew for sure she was there now. She’d been stupid! There was no reasoning with these people. Others had tried. She’d heard them. Begging, offering money, goods….. others. She shuddered again. She needed those bloody weapons, or she was next on their list. She could hear them gaining on her. Jumping across the staircase sections, howling like wild dogs in a hunt. They’re catching up, move faster! She told herself. Fear hit her hard, she flew across the last level and raced for the doorway. Yanking it open, she looked around frantically for something to jam it. Her wrench was too small.

Throwing it to one side. She saw the storage racks, grabbing a replacement metal bar and dragged it over to the door way. She wasn’t sure how she was going to lift it, but knew she had to if she was going to survive. Struggling like crazy, hearing them coming, an almighty rush of adrenalin had her hoisting it with fury and wedging it across the door through the handle across the metal frame. The door rocked and rattled as someone on the other side tried to pull it open just as she’d wedged it. Fuck that was close.

Nicky moved back breathing hard. It sounded like the door was yanked and kicked, voices were angry, threatening, coaxing. Reassuring herself the frame was metal, she backed up, knowing the handle was the weak point. She wasn’t sure how long it would hold. The bar was already moving against the floor. Slowly moving backwards, she
watched as they continued to try to get in and their frustrations rose. Time was running out. Nicky’s flight response kicked in, she turned and ran for the weapons storage. It was now or never. They were making one hell of a racket. Keeping low, staying quiet, she hoped no one else had already got to this level and if they had, they’d head for the door making all the noise and at least give her a chance.

The storage levels were huge warehouses. Stacked shelves with goods and replacement parts. She moved as fast as she dared from rack to rack. Checking, listening, hearing the doorway being attacked as they hammered at it, as she moved further away from it. Spying the lock-up in the far corner, she made a beeline in that direction. Reaching the enclosed area, her relief turned to frustration. The door was code locked. Why hadn’t she thought of that? She didn’t have the code and frantically looked for an answer as she heard the door start to give way. They’d be coming now. Fuck. She was gonna have to climb. Nicky looked up at what had to be a 20ft high fence wall. She thanked her need to stay supple to get around the components of her Air Drive and grabbed the wire fencing, she started to climb. Half way up, she heard the scream of joy and whooping from the men behind her. Shit, they were in. Nicky kept going. If she could just get over the top and in, she’d have weapons.
